Too Sick to Smile

We haven't left the house in over a week and Grace hasn't been out of her pajamas. The beginning of last week she was exhausted and after a few days of resting she started running fever on Wednesday. For about 24 hours the Tylenol and Motrin kept it at a low grade. Thursday afternoon she woke up crying, but her cry was different this time, it was quiet and more of a sobbing. She was burning up!.. I couldn't get her to the kitchen fast enough for more Motrin and a cold dish cloth. I draped it from her forehead around to the back of her neck..... Don't honestly know if that helped, but it made me feel better. Her temperature, it was 105.3! By this point she had stopped crying, and was just life less. Praise Jesus she was still breathing. (Aimee, your mother holding Nathan in front of the freezer intensely came to mind. Wow. I have no doubt this was the Lord!) I opened the freezer door and just stood there holding her and talking to her. After a few minutes she came to a little and said "cold" she didn't like the dish cloth on her head. She was now 104 "point" something, I can't remember. All I know it was going down and my little girl was talking!! After a very quick text to Jeff ...."105.3".... he knew what it meant. He met us at Taylor Medical. They are so much faster than GSMC. Just one hour later, we had one urinalyses, one diagnosis, and two shots in the hiney. The doctor was shocked at her urinary results. He said that it's common to have blood in your urine if you have a urinary tract infection, but to have blood along with pus it's very uncommon. He has only seen a few cases in his years of practice. We have done all the little extra bathroom precautions with her so we don't know how she got this infection. Mom told me infections like this run in the family. We still feel awful. Apparently our little girl has been hurting for awhile.

It's been a very slow recovery. At one point we considered taking her to the hospital for a second opinion. After Jeff and I prayed and discussed again what the doctor had told us we felt at peace.

The antibiotic she is taking is making her avoid/limit her sun light. Saturday evening for about 10 minutes was the first time this week she has been outside. The princess umbrella was blocking the sun, the jacket was because she was cold and the shorts for the fever...trying to keep her temp down when all she wants to do is cover up. It's been baby steps but we are so thankful we are moving forward!

The boys have missed her. She has been here but just sleeping most of the time.

Resting on the swing outside this evening.

We heard her laugh today for the first time in over a week... it was music to our ears.

Little Grace

On Monday and Tuesday she was acting a little tired but we thought it was because the boys were out of school last week, and she is always more active when they're home. Plus, camping is always fun and exciting but very tiring. When she woke up at 5 o'clock this morning and got in bed with me... immediately I knew something was wrong. She has had fever, and has slept most of the day.
It breaks my heart seeing her so sick.
I also found out today that Caleb, my nephew, is going for a surgical consultation on Friday in Shreveport concerning the removal of his appendix. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Spring Camping

We always enjoy Spring Break, and this year we headed to Tyler State Park. We had a great time, and we couldn't have asked for more perfect weather! The kids and I got there about an hour before Jeff, just so we could get started setting up camp. I'll be honest, keeping an eye on three kiddos while unhooking and setting up the camper, I was a little nervous, and curious just how much we would get accomplished. ;) But, all three of them were very helpful, no one ran off or wanted to go play as soon as we got out of the car, they did a great job helping me!!!
We even had a few minutes to play a couple of rounds of Jenga while cooling off in the A/C before Daddy got to camp!

They're still smiling after choosing an hours worth of Paddle boating. We stopped on shore so that we could switch out without causing anyone to go over board, to give the boys about a 20min break. They said, "Next time we're canoeing. That was a lot of work!!"

Yes. The Park Ranger is walking toward them with a live snake in hand. The Park had several fun activities or classes for the kids. They learned how to identify venomous snakes in the wild. Well...in our case, in our own back yard. Ha!!

They also got to pet and feed him! Yes, that is Grace in Jared's lap petting the snake...there was no fear in that little girl. Well... As long as she was in her big brothers lap. So sweet!

No help from Mom or Dad, this was his own hook, line and sinker!.. a Catfish!! That's all I will say. I'll let you read his blog,
"Adventures With Jared" for more! ;)

I love this one of Caden reading in the hammock on Friday night by the Moon light and flash light.

Jeff and Grace fishing this morning.

While walking on the hiking trail these two little guys
walked right up to us.

Grace was saying, "Hi there little duckies"

"Oh... Mommy can I feed them?!" We don't have any bread with us. "I can give them some chicken" (our fish bate). No, were not soposed to feed them. "But they're hungry Mommy." They will be okay. "Sorry little duckies, I don't have any food for ya."

Me and my hunny on one of our hikes.

I loved having all three kids at home last week!

Spring Break goes by way to fast.

Almost a Spring Break

With the boys being out of school for Spring Break we are enjoying the time off and our time together! Unfortunately, this post has nothing to do with that...
Last night the boys were at a sleepover and had a wonderful time! The kiddos would have preferred hanging out and playing all day!
As we're leaving their driveway this morning, Caden says,"Mom I hurt my finger playing basketball this morning." Really, well are you okay?" Yeah, I'm fine, Abi got me some ice." Well, okay!" About an hour later he asked me if I would open a Pizza Pocket for him.. "You need help opening that? " Yeah, my finger hurts pretty bad when I try to use it."Son, let me see your finger."
As soon as I touched it, he started to cry and said that "it hurts really bad." Well, I bet, it's swollen and black and blue. You needed to tell your brother or Mrs Aimee you got hurt." (Remind you he was my 3yr old little boy with an ear infection so bad that his eardrum was about to burst and he acted like everything was fine). Oh, that boy!

I call Jeff, and Caden and I head up to Taylor Medical for an X-Ray. We are getting some good use out of the insurance card. ;) This makes my second trip to the clinic this week.

Thankfully, Caden is fine! It wasn't a break, just a bad sprain. The Doctor fit him for a splint, he will have to wear 24/7 for two weeks. Caden thinks it's pretty cool, his Dad even called him a cyborg ;) We shall see how much he still likes it, in a few days. ;)

Memaw

I can't believe it's been 2 years ago already... the years are just going by so fast.
Grace and I stopped by to see your beautiful flowers on this cold Monday morning... Jared will probably be upset with me because we went without him and we will have to return again this afternoon. :) Your daughter(s) have done a wonderful job with the flowers, they are always so beautiful.

Grace found two of the flowers on the ground and she placed them back into the wreath. She said, "There you go little flower, it will be okay. We love Memaw, but can't see her because she is in Heaven." So sweet.

I love this picture of me and my "little pistol," as Memaw would say. ;) Wished I would have thrown on some make-up before leaving the house this morning though, oh well :)

Thank you for all your prayers for my nephew. He has turned the corner, as the Doctors' like to say. As of Sunday, Caleb has been off the oxygen tube... all day!... and he should get the drain tube out soon. We are hoping and praying that he will be able to leave the Hospital on Tuesday!
Praise the Lord!

Cousins

It is said that friendships are made, well after seeing these two I would say that they can be born.

So on Wednesday, when Caleb got sick,

this is where Jared wanted to be. And where he has spent every afternoon and evening this week. These boys have been so sweet, they have been asking for each other. Please keep Caleb in your prayers. The surgery went well, but he is still very sick, lots of infection and running fever not to mention pain. We know the Lord is our healer and Caleb will recover. We are all hopeful he will get to come home the first of this next week.

More Than Words

I found this from a friend, and it is so sweet.

One day when I'm old and sweeping, remind me of when my broom always found Hot Wheels under the cabinet's edge.
One day when I'm old and singing, remind me of three little voices joined in unison in my back seat singing, "Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Acts and the letter to the Romans..."
One day when I'm old and cooking, remind me of spilled milk, and tall tales, and laughter at our table each night.
One day when I'm old and writing, remind me of handwritten "I love you's", and countless scraps of paper with carefully drawn robots and monster trucks and dinosaurs.
One day when I'm old and spending, remind me of the wealth of having a single penny carefully tucked in a pocket with rocks and Legos and the occasional roly poly.
One day when I'm old and praying, remind me of little heads bowed, little eyes sometimes closed, and little voices talking to the Father with full assurance that He would answer.
One day when I'm old and waiting, remind me of the flurry of activity each morning as we brushed teeth, brushed hair, grabbed backpacks and rushed off into another day.
One day when I'm old and trembling, remind me of how my arms shook under the weight of a sleeping child.
One day when I'm old and dreaming, remind me of midnight feedings and fevers and tummy aches that could only be soothed by my nearness.
One day when I'm old and worrying, remind me of unexpected hugs from arms that were too short to stretch all the way around me.
One day when I'm old and cleaning, remind me of countertops smudged with watermelon toothpaste, doorknobs coated in mysterious goo, and glass doors perpetually coated in child-sized handprints.
One day when I'm old and walking, remind me of chubby hands holding mine and little feet trusting me not to lead them astray.
One day when I'm old and counting my blessings, remind me that, for a time, I was their world.
I don't think I could, but if somehow I do forget - remind me. One day
Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.” Psalm 25:5
